Former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has revealed he remains hopeful of a Premier League title win with his former club, as a result of a City punishment.

Manchester City remain at the centre of a high-profile legal battle with the Premier League after they were handed 115 charges of alleged breaches of league rivals, some of which concern financial regulations over a four-year period.

Having been handed the charges in February 2023, Manchester City now take on the Premier League in front of an independent panel in London, which is now underway and has over two months remaining, according to timeline estimations.

Manchester City continue to strongly deny any wrongdoing, however should they be found guilty of the most serious of alleged offences, then their potential punishments could be severe and could include expulsion from the English top-flight, according to reports.

As such, that would then call into question the legitimacy of their previous Premier League title successes, and for one manager, that remains a subject clear in his own mind six years on from the conclusion of the 2017/18 campaign.

Speaking during a pre-match press conference ahead of Fenerbahce’s UEFA Europa League meeting with Manchester United this week, the Turkish club’s iconic manager Jose Mourinho has admitted his hope for a retrospective Premier League title win with his former club.

“We won the Europa League, finished second in the Premier League,” Mourinho pointed out when reflecting on his time at Old Trafford.

He continued, “We still have a chance to win that league [title] if they [the Premier League] punish Man City.

“Then they [Manchester United] have to pay me the bonus and give me the money.”

The 2017/18 Premier League season saw Manchester City break their first of many records under Pep Guardiola, as the Catalan coach led his team to a historic 100-point season in a feat that has not been matched since, even by his own side.

Manchester United were the only team who had come remotely close to the Etihad Stadium club that season, finishing 19 points adrift of Manchester City and four points ahead of third-placed Tottenham.
