Inter Miami is starting to do the right things outside the field for its future beyond this season.

On Tuesday, the Herons announced Jordi Albas' contract extension. The Spanish defender signed for two more years, until the end of 2027.

Even though Inter Miami is going through a rough patch, David Beckham and the Mas brothers know what the former FC Barcelona players meant to the team.

Jordi Alba is the first one of the former FC Barcelona quartet led by Lionel Messi to commit beyond this season. And the timing from the team may signify wanting the fans to interpret that they are close to doing the same with their captain.

Inter Miami should extend Messi before the FIFA Club World Cup.

Considering that Jordi Alba is Messi's best partner on the field, this news indicates that the club is nearing an agreement with the Argentine forward.

Why the hurry to renew him, knowing that you will have him until the end of the season? It's a simple answer.

The team doesn't function without its captain. You only need to watch the games when he misses out. With Messi on the field, the team flows.

Lionel Messi's contract expires at the end of this season, 2025. And everyone knows that, despite being 38 years old next month, Messi is still the Herons' best player, and they can't afford to lose him.

Freedom Park potential?

There is also the matter of timing off the field, with Miami set to open their new stadium project at Freedom Park sometime during 2026.

According to Jorge Mas on FDP Radio, "All the stars are aligning themselves to make this extension happen, it's solely his decision", adding, "We want to see Messi played in the new stadium, in the Freedom Park".

This answer suggests that Lionel Messi will continue his path with Inter Miami, at least, until the opening of the Herons' new home.
