Joël Veltman has revealed he has extended his Brighton stay in a unique fashion.
The 33-year-old signed a two-year extension at the Amex Stadium in summer 2023, meaning he would become a free agent at the end of the current campaign.
But the Netherlands international confirmed he will spend another 12 months with the Seagulls when taking part in a virtual Q&A session with fans on Wednesday.
When asked by ex-teammate Glenn Murray whether he would spent the rest of his career with Fabian Hürzeler's side, Veltman made the surprise announcement.
"My contract was expiring in the summer but I have extended it by another year," said Veltman.
"I have been here for five years and still love it but you never know [what will happen] in football."
Veltman has made over 160 appearances for Brighton since joining from Ajax in 2020.
