On Monday, NJ/NY Gotham FC revealed the midseason roster update for the summer. This is done ahead of the free agency window's opening on Tuesday, for players can begin discussions with other clubs for the following season.

As such, the club revealed that the two short-term contract players, Emerson Elgin and Tyler McCamey, who were with the team as injury replacements, have officially left the team. This was expected, and in a sense, they were not considered to be a part of the full roster.

However, there was a question about forward Jéssica Silva, who was on a six-month contract. She was one of the full rostered players who had a chance of leaving this summer, and in the end, that came to fruition. She is not signing a new contract and will search for a new team.

Gotham FC's roster updates

Based on her lack of playing time, it is not shocking to see Silva leave. At the same time, she could have stayed to get back on track with her playing, for she missed some time due to injury. Her staying would have been beneficial to Gotham's depth. Plus, if she returned to full fitness and was at the top of her game, then Gotham FC fans probably would have seen the winger start some matches.

Nevertheless, Silva is no longer here, and that opens up another international spot. Perhaps the club can use that spot to bring in an international defender since the Bats desperately need another defender or two.

Of course, Gotham FC also revealed who will be a free agent in the offseason. Bruninha, Ryan Campbell, Khyah Harper, Midge Purce, and Ella Stevens are all unrestricted free agents and officially can begin conversations with other clubs. However, the NJ/NY side is "in active contract discussions with all five players regarding their futures with the club." In addition, there is a mutual option for Stevens next year, so she could forgo free agency.

Purce is arguably the biggest free agent. It was great when she was brought back for this season, but now fans will have to wait and see again with her future.

Meanwhile, Gotham FC has fewer free agents this season and will ideally retain most of their roster after the drastic turnover from the previous offseason. Trades can occur, but the club should focus on retaining as many players as possible both this summer and for next season.
