Pep Guardiola often receives high praise from all those across the sport, and the latest of those comments has come from Jeremy Doku within the Manchester City camp.
The Belgium international has been at the very heart of Guardiola’s attacking system since joining the club in a big-money move from Stade Rennais over a year ago, competing for a consistent place on the left-wing with Jack Grealish.
Whilst performances have been somewhat inconsistent from the youngster, his potential and ability to make a difference to a game has never been in doubt, with Guardiola often turning to Doku for an injection of energy in matches.
Doku, alongside his Manchester City teammates, have been called into question of late with their worrying form across competitions that has seen them left in 6th position in the Premier League and 22nd in the UEFA Champions League.
Speaking to Manchester City’s official club website, amid a period of hugely uncertain form across competitions, Jeremy Doku has been keen to insist that Pep Guardiola will come up with the necessary solutions to the team’s problems.
“Obviously he is the best coach I have ever worked with, and he is the best coach in the world. Pep (Guardiola) has a lot of ideas, and he is creative,” the Belgian forward explained.
He continued, “He is someone who always has a solution for everything and that is why I have no doubt that Pep, especially in this situation, will come up with something and an idea that will help us out and we will be back. He is a great coach to work with.”
Quizzed on what specifically he has learned since working under Guardiola from the moment he first arrived at Manchester City in the summer transfer market of 2023, Jeremy Doku said, “I think positionally, understanding the game [better].”
He went on to explain, “I think he is not someone that just wants you to play and do what you are used to doing. He wants you to understand why and be able to play different positions to what you are used to so you can help the team. It is an education.
“He wants you to learn and I think I have learnt a lot since I arrived last year. I have learnt a bit from everyone. I look a lot at the players that play in my position like Jack, Phil and Bernardo.
“I try to look at them and see what they are doing, what I can take from it and what I can learn from it. I have wonderful teammates and everyday training with them is a privilege.”
Doku and Manchester City will return to action on Saturday afternoon as they welcome West Ham United to the Etihad Stadium off the back of a 0-2 away victory against Leicester City prior to the turn of the year.
This weekend’s Premier League outing will then be followed by the return of the FA Cup to Manchester City’s agenda, as Salford City of League Two make the short trip across Greater Manchester in the third round of the competition.
