Jamie Gittens is set to become a Chelsea player after the Premier League side agreed a deal with Borussia Dortmund in the summer transfer window.
The 20-year-old winger was one of the Blues’ top transfer targets ahead of next season as they look to build on last season’s fourth-placed finish in the top flight.
Gittens enjoyed a breakout campaign for BVB in 2024/25, making 21 starts in the Bundesliga and registering eight goals and three assists. He also started 11 times in the UEFA Champions League, scoring four goals in the competition.
Chelsea faced competition from Bayern Munich and had their opening bid of £42 million rejected, but they got their man in the end. Here is everything we know so far about the deal.
Chelsea will pay £55.5m (€65m) to buy Gittens from Dortmund after completing his medical, which reportedly took place on Saturday night.
In typical Chelsea fashion, Gittens has been handed a seven-year deal. If he sees out the full length of his contract then he will at the club until 2032, at which point he will 27 years of age.
Chelsea fans hoping to see their new signing at the Club World Cup will be disappointed. Despite the fact that participating teams can register two new players between 27 June and 3 July, Gittens can’t play for the Blues at the tournament as he is cup tied having already played for Dortmund in the group stages.
That means Gittens will have to wait until pre-season to make his first appearance for the club and the beginning of the Premier League campaign to make his competitive debut. Their opening game against Crystal Palace takes place on 17 August.
Here are the numbers currently available that Gittens could wear next season: 2, 13, 16, 20, 21, 26, 28, 31, 33, 35, 36, 37, 40, 41, 42, 43, 46.
