Jadon Sancho has not listened to Enzo Maresca’s advice from December – and now risks being dropped

Jadon Sancho has not scored enough goals this season, and that’s no surprise.
The winger takes fewer than one shot a game. We’ve got full backs who shoot more than that. He should take a leaf from Cole Palmer’s book. He takes a lot of shots – and scores a lot of goals.
Enzo Maresca was asked about the winger in his press conference yesterday, and revealed that he had told his winger to “shoot more,” according to the BBC’s coverage.
This mirrors criticism we heard earlier in the season from the manager:
“Jadon, since we started, is doing well. He was lacking a finish because we had many different games where he arrived one-v-one and he is always looking for an assist. This is good but sometimes he is in a position where he can take a shot and now he is doing better,” the Italian coach had said back in December after Sancho scored against Tottenham in the reverse of tonight’s fixture.

Speaking back at the start of March, the winger said the following:
“[My form is returning] step by step, I know I can do better, especially in front of goal. It was kind of annoying not to score, but I know it’ll come, I just have to take time and be patient. Step by step, but I’m very happy with the boys today.”
We’ve not seen a huge amount of evidence of that since. In fact, he could now be in trouble, as Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson have returned to fitness and will surely squeeze the goal shy winger out of contention for a start tonight against Tottenham, unless he’s been doing something truly sensational in training while his international colleagues have been away.
