Yesterday’s winner against Roma could be the turning point for Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez after a tough start in Serie A.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

There is no disguising the fact that Lautaro Martinez’s start to the season in Serie A has been subpar.

The Argentine suffered a lengthy goal drought over the first few matches of the campaign.

A lack of sharpness was evident in Martinez’s performances over the first few matches. This was certainly at least partly the result of a lack of proper preseason.

The Inter captain did get his first two goals of the season in a Serie A win over Udinese.

Martinez scored either side of halftime in that match. A scrappy and fortuitous first goal seemed to break the dam, as the 27-year-old followed it up with a vintage strike.

But then against Torino in Inter’s next match, it was another quiet outing from Inter’s captain.

This will have raised one or two questions about whether the brace against Udinese was a false dawn.

Can Goal Vs Roma Be The Turning Point For Lautaro Martinez In Serie A?

There was no lack of freshness of physicality from Martinez against Roma yesterday.

It was a real battle against the Giallorossi.

But Martinez was up for it. The Nerazzurri captain set the tone for his team with a tenacious display and plenty of defensive workrate.

Martinez did not lack the energy to make a lung-bursting run forward as Inter had a dangerous counter straight from a Roma counter around the hour mark, though.

And the Argentine got the reward for it. He got on the end of a pass from Davide Frattesi.

From there, it was vintage Martinez, as the Inter captain smashed the ball past Roma keeper Mile Svilar with pace and precision.

Now, the 27-year-old will be feeling that this is something that he can really build upon.
