Promising Irish striker Mason Melia visited Celtic last week as he ponders his future. The 17-year-old visited Tottenham Hotspur last month as Ange Postecoglou’s side consider the move for the St Patrick’s Athletic forward.

According to Irish Mirror, Celtic are leading the race to sign Melia along with Spurs with a number of other teams also interested in the player.

Brendan Rodgers is keen for the prodigal talent to sign for Celtic and extended an invite to the player allowing him to visit the Scottish Champions’ facilities in an attempt to woo him into signing.

The striker netted 10 goals and assisted 3 in 54 senior appearances for his club, prompting interest from Celtic and Premier League clubs.

However, due to Brexit rules, Celtic cannot sign Meila until he turns 18 in September, meaning he can continue plying his trade and developing with St Pat’s.

Melia earned the PFA Ireland Young Player of the Year award and the Pat’s Young Player of the Year award after an impressive campaign.

Melia has been capped up to Under-19 level for Ireland and was called up to the Under-21s, where he’ll likely continue as he continues to make his way in the game. Melia will probably be watching Johnny Kenny’s progress at Celtic at the moment.

Kenny has returned to Celtic after a successful loan at Shamrock Rovers. The Irish forward was able to play regular first team football for the League of Ireland runners up as well as competing in the Europa Conference League.

Kenny made his debut for Celtic at the weekend, assisting the fourth goal as Luke McCowan helped Celtic beat Ross County.
