Alexander Isak continues to dominate the headlines.
This heightened further on Saturday, even though he wasn’t involved in Newcastle United’s defeat at Celtic.
It was no surprise that Alexander Isak wasn’t involved at this very early stage of United’s friendly schedule, considering his injury and fitness issues late last season and then the fact the striker (along with those who has been on international duty his summer) had only joined the rest of the NUFC squad on the Monday ahead of the Glasgow friendly.
However, the fact that the Sweden international wasn’t even watching at Celtic Park simply produced even more headlines.
Eddie Howe on why Alexander Isak wasn’t at the Celtic match:
“It was my decision. He travelled back to Glasgow [from Austria] with us but I decided to send him home due to the speculation around him. The last thing he wanted is to be sat in the stand watching, that wasn’t fair to him.
“But I am confident he will be a Newcastle player come the end of the window.”
The Alexander Isak situation at Newcastle United was was predicted by the more informed NUFC journalists, as one that would continue to be in the spotlight, making headlines, throughout the summer. They certainly got that prediction correct!
Now it is a quote from Gonzalo Gaitan that is making headlines.
Gaitan is the striker’s agent and this quote is now doing the rounds and making the headlines, The Mail are amongst those running the quote, from Saudi Arabian newspaper Arriyadiyah when speaking to Gonzalo Gaitan
“We are indeed studying and analysing all options and we may be close to finalising the next step for the player, without revealing any details regarding whether Alexander Isak will transfer or stay with Newcastle.”
It is difficult to really know what to make of this ‘quote’ that is claimed to come from Isak’s agent.
Like any other credible media, here at The Mag we would always include a link to the original source where possible.
However, none of the UK media that I have seen carrying the quote have a link to the original source, including The Mail (which we have linked to above, where they have carried/repeated the quote).
Looking online to try and find a link myself to the Arriyadiyah interview has proved impossible.
As for the quote itself.
If this is indeed what Isak’s agent has said, it isn’t exactly helpful, it is a case of adding more fuel to the fire rather than dampening down the endless media speculation.
Are we supposed to believe this ‘interview’ was just the one sentence?
There must surely be more have been said if indeed Isak’s agent has done such an interview, the questions and his replies that give a proper context to this one sentence claimed quote.
This is even before you get to the chances of ‘lost in translation’ when such quotes come from another written language. Putting words into Google Translate often provides some bizarre ‘translated’ quotes.
That one sentence quote could also of course be taken to mean anything, Alexander Isak to leave St James’ Park OR Alexander Isak to sign a new extended contract OR indeed nothing happening at all.
This latest episode just adds to the ongoing chaos, where we have had months of Alexander Isak speculation in the media based on nothing really. Apart from the fact that of course he is a very good player who all of the other clubs would love to have playing for them BUT he is under contract for another three years at Newcastle, the club and Eddie Howe have repeatedly made clear that there is no intention at all to sell him this summer, whilst Alexander Isak himself has said or done absolutely nothing to encourage the speculation, only saying he loves it at Newcastle and looking forward to next season. If indeed his agent has done this interview and said something as ambiguous as this one sentence ‘quote’, you can’t imagine Alexander Isak being impressed by his agent doing so.
Ideally, we will see on Monday, Alexander Isak’s agent come out and say that the ‘quote’ is a load of nonsense and state all fine with the player and intention is to stay at St James’ Park for sure.
When I say ‘ideally’, I suppose even more ideal is if today we get confirmation of Alexander Isak having agreed an enhanced and extended contract with Newcastle United, with the player himself stating he is going nowhere.
