Brentford defender Michael Kayode was involved in a dramatic quarter-final defeat for Italy against Germany in the Under-21 Euros on Sunday.

The 20-year-old full-back was introduced in stoppage-time, shortly before Giuseppe Ambrosino netted a free-kick with the final kick of the game to take the clash to extra-time despite Gli Azzurrini being reduced to nine players.

Luca Koleosho opened the scoring in the second half before Nick Woltemade equalised for Germany.

Leeds forward Wilfried Gnonto and Mattia Zanotti were sent off either side of Nelson Weiper's 87th-minute header, which looked to be enough to settle the match.

Following Ambrosino's superb free-kick, Carmine Nunziata's side defended valiantly but Merlin Röhl struck on 117 minutes to break their hearts and claim a 3-2 win.

Prior to the Germany meeting, Kayode played the full 90 minutes of Italy's 1-1 group stage draw against Spain, having previously featured as a late substitute in 1-0 wins against both Romania and hosts Slovakia.

Elsewhere in the tournament, Yehor Yarmoliuk started for Ukraine Under-21 as they lost 2-0 to the Netherlands in their final group game.

A win or a draw would have been enough to qualify from Group D but goals either side of half-time from Luciano Valente and Thom van Bergen were the difference at Futbal Tatran Arena.

In the Under-19 Euros, a defeat to the Netherlands also saw England and Jayden Meghoma miss out on the knockout stages.

The Bees left-back played the duration of the 4-2 loss in Romania.

Germany came from behind to beat Norway 2-1 and seal England's fate courtesy of Said el Mala's injury-time winner, meaning they topped the group with Oranje progressing as runners-up.

Finally, Ethan Pinnock played the full 90 minutes as Jamaica defeated Guadeloupe 2-1 in the CONCACAF Gold Cup on Saturday.

The Reggae Boyz, who currently occupy second place in Group C, face Panama on Wednesday knowing that they will progress to the quarter-finals should they match or better Guatemala's result.
