Serie A title holders Inter and European hopefuls Bologna shared the spoils in a thrilling 2-2 draw at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. A topsy-turvy match on Wednesday evening saw both sides on the front foot in the first half, only to settle for a point in the end.
Fresh of making clubs history at Venezia last weekend, Inter came into this midweek round, pursuing a seventh consecutive Serie A win. However, the game didn’t start well for Simone Inzaghi’s side as Bologna took an early lead through Santiago Castro.
Inter bounced back within four minutes through Denzel Dumfries before Lautaro Martinez turned the match on its head on the stroke of halftime. But Emil Holm leveled the score at the start of the second half with his first goal for Bologna.
Without further ado, let’s look at our player ratings.
Yann Sommer – 6.5
There was absolutely nothing he could’ve done to stop Castro and Holm. The former’s deflection caught him on the wrong foot, while the latter smashed the ball off the post and in. Still made several spectacular saves to spare Inter’s blushes.
Matteo Darmian – 6
After a match-winning performance at Venezia, the veteran defender struggled to keep up with lightning-fast Dan Ndoye. Outpaced by the Swiss winger on multiple occasions!
Stefan de Vrij – 5
The Dutchman should’ve closed down on Castro far more quickly. He also had Sommer to thank for bailing him out of trouble several times on either side of halftime.
Alessandro Bastoni – 6.5
Like his defensive colleagues, the Italian star had some sloppy interventions, though it didn’t backfire on Inter. Calm and collected in possession.
Denzel Dumfries – 6.5
Drew Inter level with a simple tap-in midway through the first half but vanished from the final third afterward.
Nicolo Barella – 7.5
He’s an absolute world-class. In addition to tireless runs, he always had solutions in tight spaces, keeping the Inter midfield tick over under pressure.
Kristjan Asllani – 5.5
Another confirmation that he’s miles away from Hakan Calhanoglu’s level! His touches were brimming with insecurity, not to mention his attempts to find his teammates with diagonal balls only served to give away the possession.
Piotr Zielinski – 6.5
The Polish midfielder seems to be finding his rhythm after an injury-hit first half of the season. His delightful lofted pass split Bologna’s defense in half, leading to Martinez’s goal at the end of the first half.
Federico Dimarco – 7
He got to the end of Zielinski’s ball before serving the Inter captain on a silver platter with a trademark low cross into the penalty area. Despite several defensive mistakes, he was outstanding in attack.
Marcus Thuram – 6.5
The Frenchman is such an elegant player to watch. Had Mehdi Taremi shown composure, he could’ve had two assists to his name tonight.
Lautaro Martinez – 7
El Toro found the net with a poacher’s finish, but you could see the frustration on his face. Went to the ground way too easily several times, expecting fouls that never came.
Carlos Augusto – 6
Benjamin Pavard – 6.5
Mehdi Taremi – 5
