Inter Milan and Denzel Dumfries are on the verge of finalizing their agreement over a new contract, and the club will soon be making the announcement.
The 28-year-old has been plying his trade at San Siro since making the move from the PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2021.
The Dutchman cemented himself as a regular starter in Simone Inzaghi’s starting lineup. Therefore, the club has been eager to maintain his services by extending his contract, as his current deal only runs until June 2025.
But while the two parties had failed initially to make progress in their negotiations, they have recently managed to find a breakthrough.
According to Il Corriere della Sera via FcInterNews, the Nerazzurri will soon announce the contract extension of the right wingback.
Dumfries would thus join Nicolo Barella and Simone Inzaghi have recently penned new contracts. Inter have also prepared an extension for Lautaro Martinez upon his return to Italy.
The Netherlands international’s new contract would ward off all suitors. The player was previously linked with the likes of Man United and Aston Villa.
Moreover, Inter no longer need to explore the market in search of a new right wingback. With Dumfries staying at Appiano Gentile, his duel with Matteo Darmian for a starting role should continue.
The Nerazzurri have parted ways with Juan Cuadrado following a single injury-riddled campaign. However, they can still count on Tajon Buchanan as an option for the right wing. However, the Canada international won’t return from injury until December.
