Simone Inzaghi hailed his high-flying Inter Milan side following an impressive 3-0 home win against Monaco tonight.
During his post-game interview with Prime via FCInterNews, the Scudetto-winning manager outlined Inter’s European ambitions.
Although Inter locked down a knockout berth with a game to spare, they refused to take their feet off the gas.
Indeed, the Nerazzurri needed a point against Monaco to cement a top-eight finish, irrespective of other results.
Instead, they took all three.
Lautaro Martinez stole the show at Giuseppe Meazza, bagging a scintillating hat-trick to tear the French side to pieces.
Meanwhile, Yann Sommer kept another clean sheet – his seventh in eight league-phase outings.
That probably best illustrates the team’s commitment to this competition.
Another mature team performance gave Simone Inzaghi no choice but to congratulate his lads after the game.
“I congratulated the team – we played eight important matches,” Inzaghi said.
“It’s been a great journey, not to be taken for granted, just look at the table and see how many great teams didn’t make the top eight.

“Credit to the boys, they’ve done something extraordinary.
“We conceded just one goal in Leverkusen from a corner that shouldn’t have happened.
“Our goal is to go all the way in the Champions League and every competition, but of course, our opponents have the same ambitions.
“I’ve been saying this since July 13 – there’s no superstition. I coach a big club. You all know what it means to represent Inter globally.
“Over these four years, we’ve played for trophies, and we have great ambition. We want to keep going like this.”
Inter wanted to avoid the playoffs at all costs amid a congested fixture schedule.
Tonight’s win allowed Inzaghi’s side to progress directly into the Round of 16.
“We knew we’d face either a Dutch or an Italian side,” Inzaghi added.
“The hardest part was preparing for this match with the standings in mind. The team showed maturity, and I congratulated them.
“We wanted to put in a great performance, and we did.”
Meanwhile, he commented on the new Champions League format.
“It’s more demanding, not just for the players but also for us coaches because we have to study eight different opponents.
“It’s a lot of work, but luckily, I have a large staff that helps me.”
Finally, he spoke about Denzel Dumfries’ more advanced role.
“We know him – he’s always scored goals, both for Inter and the Netherlands.
“He’s in great form, and we’re trying to make the most of it.
“My wingbacks always score, but credit goes to the players for making it happen.”
