Nerazzurri Corporate CEO Alessandro Antonelli believes that each summer without a new stadium is costing Inter Milan €60 million to spend in the transfer market.

Speaking at the release of Italian journalist Marco Bellinazzo’s book “The New Wars Of Football” as reported by FCInter1908, the Nerazzurri executive also outlined that the club’s new plan for a stadium is to have a facility with 70,000 seats.

There is still little clarity on the future of Inter’s new stadium plans.

The Nerazzurri and city rivals AC Milan have spent several years pursuing the idea of building a new stadium to replace the San Siro.

However, those plans appear to be dead in the water.

This doesn’t mean that the two clubs won’t build new stadiums, whether together or separately. Both see having a modern stadium as vital for modernizing their infrastructure and increasing revenues.

However, they are both by all accounts focusing on alternative plans and locations.

Antonello Details Why Lack Of New Stadium Hurts Inter In Transfer Market

Inter Corporate CEO Antonello laid out how the lack of a modern stadium is impacting the club on the pitch.

“We’re missing out on €50-60 million each summer transfer window,” the executive said. “These are resources that would be used to strengthen the team and compete in Europe.”

Antonello also explained why the Nerazzurri hope to remain in the San Diro area.

“We’ve always been consistent,” he said. “We’ve always believed that a new stadium is the right choice.”

“We believe that being in the San Siro area also has value because of the historical link. We want to be able to give the fans a new, modern stadium that they can enjoy for ninety minutes, but also that we can earn money off of for seven days out of seven.”

“Clearly there are hurdles to get over,” Antonello continued. “The administration has taken all the necessary steps, and still after four years we’re left wondering if we can get the green light for a stadium.”

Why Inter Milan Aiming To Build New Stadium With 70,000 Capacity

Antonello also explained what the Nerazzurri intend for the capacity of a new stadium to be.

“We’ve coming from some years where the average attendance had been lower,” he explained. “We’ve already raised it to 70,000 people in the review of our executive project.”

“We believe that’s the correct threshold,” the Nerazzurri Corporate CEO continued.

“We could think about having a stadium that seats 100,000 people, but we also have to aim to always have a certain percentage of seats occupied,” he continued.

“It’s true that during the post-pandemic period we’ve drawn big attendances,” he added. “For the past seven years Inter have been first for attendance, averaging over 72,000.”
