Valentin Carboni says the Club World Cup with Inter Milan “helped” him, while Patrick Vieira was key in convincing him to join Genoa.

The 20-year-old spoke to Ligurian newspaper Il Secolo XIX, via FCInter1908, in an interview in today’s print edition.

It has been a busy summer for attacking midfielder Valentin Carboni.

The Argentine had spent the majority of last season on the sidelines recovering from a knee injury that he’d suffered in the fall.

However, Carboni was part of the Inter squad at the Club World Cup this summer.

And the young attacking midfielder got his share of playing time at that tournament.

Not only that, Carboni enjoyed something of a star turn. The 20-year-old came off the bench to score Inter’s stoppage time winner in a group stage match against Urawa Red Diamonds.

Now, Carboni has joined Genoa on loan. He will hope that this spell with the Grifone provides him with the platform to play regularly in Serie A and really hit his stride.

Valentin Carboni descried his goal against Urawa Reds as “liberating.”

“I was just coming back after a few months,” the Argentine noted. “That tournament was important for me.”

Carboni called it “a perfect comeback.” He aded that “I’ll use it as a starting point.”

Then, the 20-year-old said that “I’m feeling good physically.”

“I’ve joined up with [Genoa] a bit late, but I started working with the group. They’re slowly getting me back to the best shape possible.”

Meanwhile, Carboni commented that he “already knew there was interest” from Genoa.

“But with the injury at Marseille, I wasn’t playing.”

“The Club World Cup with Inter was a chance for me to show that I had recovered,” added the Argentine.

And as far as joining Genoa, Carboni said that “The fans, the stadium, an Vieira calling me convinced me.”
