Levi Colwill was the subject of an enquiry from Bayern Munich in the summer, it has been confirmed today.

Sky Germany insider Florian Plettenberg has said the Germans were “seriously interested” over the summer, and made an enquiry which was swiftly dismissed by Chelsea.

Now Colwill is an Enzo Maresca favourite, an occasional captain and a key piece of the new project at Chelsea.  He’s also starting to play regularly for England. Given how well things are going for him at the moment, we wouldn’t expect anyone else to bother trying to sign him anytime soon.

He’s seen as a key part of the team, and of the future. He’s one of the players who has been an undisputed Premier League starter under Maresca since the day the coach arrived, and we can’t see that changing anytime soon.

He’s not yet perfected his game, but he’s a phenomenal player for his age.

Not the first Colwill exit rumour

If you remember, the summer before this there were also serious rumours about Colwill leaving.

He had been a star for upwardly mobile Brighton, who had just had their honeymoon period under Roberto De Zerbi with Colwill as a breakout star. With Chelsea in a total mess, there was a strong strain of thought that Colwill would prefer to make a permanent move to the South Coast.

Well instead, he stayed at Chelsea and we got things back on track while De Zerbi’s project crashed. Colwill was in and out of the team last year thanks to injury, but he’s now proper first choice and we doubt even Bayern’s advances were too tempting. The guy has moved back to his parents house in Southampton – a move abroad doesn’t seem too likely…
