One of the most consistent issues that FC Barcelona is having to deal with this season is injuries. Not exactly a new problem for the Catalan giants, however, given that these issues persist almost every season. Unfortunately, that does not mean that it is proving to be any less harmful for Barcelona in this campaign.
Lamine Yamal, for instance, is a player whose absence has arguably caused La Blaugrana to suffer a lot. With two poor results in back to back games, the team’s inability to win without him is becoming a massive issue that Hansi Flick’s side is yet to overcome this season.
However, Yamal is not the only player who is struggling with an injury right now. Two other players, namely Ronald Araujo and Ferran Torres, were also previously sidelined and have only just recently rejoined group training, albeit to a partial degree.
Now, in a recent interview through the club’s media, another player has shed some light on his situation. As highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, 28-year-old Danish defender Andreas Christensen is the player who has recently provided some insight into his recovery and how he is feeling at the moment.
Having undergone a minor surgery recently that is expected to keep him sidelined until next year, Christensen revealed more about his decision to speak on this topic himself while also revealing more about the kind of procedure he underwent:
“It’s been a while, so I decided to speak out. I feel good; we’ve turned a corner. We performed a minor surgery—so minor it could be considered a cleanup. It shouldn’t affect my recovery time. In fact, it will speed it up. I don’t want to put pressure on myself, but I feel we’re heading in the right direction.”
Moreover, the Dane believes that he is on the right track to return at his best level once he is fully recovered and is given the medical green light:
“I’m starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. We’re working hard, undergoing extensive treatment to rebuild confidence and feel comfortable with various movements. I feel like I’m on the right track to return at 100%.”
However, Christensen did admit that this was not an enjoyable experience at all for him to watch on from the sidelines. Furthermore, he seems to believe that the only way he can end up helping out the team is if he makes a return at full capacity rather than coming back with any kind of doubts about his fitness:
“I’m not enjoying this, but I approach every day with determination to rejoin the team. Each day that passes is one day closer. There are many matches, and everyone will get opportunities. For now, the focus, as Flick has also emphasized, is on something crucial: returning at 100% to help the team. Coming back at 80% or 90% wouldn’t benefit me or the team. The goal is for every injured player to return fully fit and contribute. The team is playing well, and it will be challenging.”
For now, he remains on the sidelines and continues to gradually work his way towards a full recovery. Until then, the likes of Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez have done well enough by themselves at centre-back, and it will likely not take Araujo too much time from now to make his return for Barcelona either.
