Trent Alexander-Arnold says it was a dream to make his Real Madrid debut in the Club World Cup.
The 26-year-old made his first appearance for Los Blancos in their opening match of the Club World Cup, drawing 1-1 with Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal.
Alexander-Arnold moved to Real on June 1, after the Spanish giants agreed to pay £10 million fee to Liverpool to allow the right-back to join early ahead of the tournament.
The England international played 65 minutes in Miami before being substituted. Madrid took the lead through youngster Gonzalo Garcia in the 34th minute before Ruben Neves equalised for the Saudi side seven minutes later from the penalty spot.
Federico Valverde missed a penalty in second-half injury time as Los Blancos got their competition underway with a draw.
“It’s the first time that I’ve moved clubs so I didn’t know what to expect,” the 26-year-old said, reflecting on his start to life at the club. “I had no expectations coming into this.
“It’s a big change and it’s different but I’m loving every single minute of it and in my mind and my heart, I know that I made the right decision for me.
“It was a very proud moment for me. I’m very happy to have made my debut. It’s something that most, if not all players, dream of in their life.
“I’m incredibly proud of the achievement but of course there’s some disappointment (with the result) with the mentality that comes as a Madrid player.
“You want and expect to win every single game but of course, new coach, some new players and new ideas – there’s some positives to take from it, especially in the second half and the foundation has been built to go and win the next game now.”
Madrid take on Mexican side Pachuca in Charlotte on Sunday, searching for their first win of the tournament.
