Ibrox Noise sources have confirmed to us a rumour that has been swilling around t’internet the past few days, that of Robin Propper’s January return to Holland.
The 31-year-old hasn’t settled in Govan at all, and is suffering homesickness, having only left his native Netherlands for the first time in the summer – but like former Dutch Rangers target Joey Veerman the Dutchman suffers homesickness and would like to return to his home country.
Unfortunately his style hasn’t suited Rangers at all either, and he was of course a very last-minute signing with Connor Goldson’s very sudden departure to Cyprus, but sadly Propper hasn’t really fit in and hasn’t forged much of a partnership with John Souttar, now Rangers’ number one stopper.
He has made quite a few appearances, 14, but hasn’t been convincing in defence at all, with a general lack of understanding with Souttar.
Rangers’ rearguard has been more robust when Nigerian Leon Balogun has partnered Souttar, and in recent matches it’s been he starting alongside the Scot.
The details of Propper’s likely exit are sketchy – we understand it’s a sale, quite possibly back to Twente, with Rangers looking to bring someone in to replace him, likely on loan – Balogun is rated highly by the club but it’s well known he’s not getting any younger.
Rangers also do have the impressive Neraysho Kasanwirjo but sadly he may be out for the season unless his recent injury brings back great news in the scan, so he too would require replacing if the worst comes to the worst.
Meaning Rangers could be down to just Souttar and Balogun and that definitely isn’t enough.
The defence will require serious surgery in January if these events come to pass.
