Ibrahima Konate added to Real Madrid’s shortlist amid search for defensive reinforcements | OneFootball

Real Madrid are reportedly considering a move for Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate, according to Foot Mercato.

The 25-year-old has been a pivotal figure in Liverpool’s defence since his transfer from RB Leipzig in 2021, after which he has won one FA Cup and two League Cups.

However, Konate’s long-term future at Anfield is far from secure. He admitted in January that he had been offered a new deal but refused to comment on whether an agreement with Liverpool was close.

Los Blancos have now added Konate to their transfer shortlist as they look to reinforce their defensive options, having had to deal with several issues at the back this term.

David Alaba and Eder Militao have both missed major stretches this season. Despite the latter recently returning to training alongside Antonio Rudiger, he could be moved on this summer.

Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain are also keen on landing Konate, and he recently admitted it was pleasing to be linked with big clubs.

Madrid’s immediate focus is on progressing to the last-16 of the Champions League in Wednesday’s knockout round play-off second leg against Manchester City.

Madrid hold a 3-2 lead from the first leg, and they are big favourites to progress to the last 16.
