Manchester United take on Fulham in Sunday’s late Premier League kick-off at Craven Cottage.
Manager Ruben Amorim faced the media on Friday and was asked plenty of questions, including one on Casemiro.
The Brazil international has fallen out of favour since Amorim took charge. He has been an unused substitute in 10 of the last 13 matches.
When asked about the reduced minutes, the Portuguese clarified that he has to make some choices and hinted that Casemiro does not suit his playing style.
He told Manutd.com: “He has to have the characteristics, and then I have to choose the player with the characteristics of how I see the game.
“It is just like that and I have to make some choices, I want to play a game that is sometimes different from other coaches and I have to choose based on that. That’s all.”
The Brazilian has been inconsistent over the last 18 months. He has clearly fallen down the pecking order under Amorim.
Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo are the preferred midfield pairing for the Portuguese.
Toby Collyer and Christian Eriksen have deputised for the duo. Collyer’s passing range makes him a better fit than Casemiro, who lacks ball control.
Casemiro, described as ‘world-class‘ by Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers, may have to pursue a new challenge away from Old Trafford.
He has been touted to move to the Saudi Pro League for some time, but there are no offers on the table for a mid-season transfer.
The scenario could be different at the end of the campaign. United should aim to recoup at least £20 million through his move to the Middle East.
