‘I have the feeling that we will do very good things this season’ – Pep Guardiola backs Man City to bounce back from recent slump in form | OneFootball

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is confident his side can turn things around off the back of a challenging couple of results.

Following their humiliating 4-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur last time out, City have now lost each of their last five games across all competitions either side of the international break.

Spurs had earlier beaten Man City in last month’s League Cup meeting to kick off a torrid run of form for the reigning English champions, who have since been beaten by Bournemouth, Sporting CP and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Despite currently suffering the longest losing streak over the course of his illustrious career to date, Guardiola remains confident in his team’s ability to compete at the highest level this season.

“At the beginning of the season, it was really good,” the Spaniard said in his pre-match press conference ahead of Man City’s Champions League clash against Feyenoord.

“We are not consistent – we’ve had an incredible amount of absences. You can have one or two, but we have a lot and important positions.

“Maybe I should expect it would happen that we would drop – it’s normal. Now we analyse in December and at the end of the season what we have to do to be more solid next season.

“I have the feeling that we will do very good things this season. I don’t give it up.”

Having recently signed a contract extension with his current employers until 2027, Guardiola will be keen to spark a renaissance as City look to make up an eight-point deficit on current Premier League leaders Liverpool.

Both teams will face off at Anfield this weekend, and while a victory could be the catalyst for a City turnaround, a defeat would leave them with a huge mountain to climb in the title race less than midway through the season.
