West Bromwich Albion look set to complete a big-money deal for Brann striker Aune Heggebø, and fans are already drawing comparisons with the successful arrival of fellow Scandinavian Torbjørn Heggem as an optimistic take on it.

According to Norwegian publication Nettavisen, Albion have agreed a deal worth £4.75m for the 23-year-old, who has scored seven goals in 13 Eliteserien appearances for Brann this season.

New Baggies boss Ryan Mason is at somewhat of a crossroads with the strike-force he has inherited, with both Daryl Dike and Josh Maja having one year remaining on their contracts - and both have proven to be rather injury-prone in recent times.

West Brom's new transfer methods praised as Aune Heggebø deal nears

FLW's Baggies Fan Pundit Callum Burgess says the club's improving scouting network gives him confidence that the Norwegian forward can make a big impact in the Championship.

And while the fee is significant for a player untested outside of Norway, Callum is backing the club's new approach after being asked whether he has concerns regarding the transfer.

"I think it is good that Albion are continuing to look for gems in these countries, something that we have failed to do so in recent years," Callum told FLW.

"But since Patel took over, the importance of improving our scouting network has been stressed, and after the success of Heggem, it does give Albion fans some high hopes that Heggebø will bring some success.

“He’s got seven goals and one assist in 13 games so far, and he seems like a livewire. Hopefully, he can continue this form in England.

“I can see why some people might see it as a risk with this sort of money, but I have full faith in our recruitment team to find some more gems for Albion now."

While West Brom already have Daryl Dike and Josh Maja in their ranks, injury issues and contract situations mean a new addition up top was always likely this summer.

With 17 goals in 62 top-flight appearances in Norway, the striker has shown steady progression, and Brann’s strong form in recent seasons has only raised his stock.

While West Brom already have Daryl Dike and Josh Maja in their ranks, injury issues and contract situations mean a new addition up top was always likely this summer.

And while some Albion supporters may question the outlay on a player yet to play outside Scandinavia, Heggebø has showed great form for Brann this season, with a strike-rate better than one goal in every two games that is not to be sniffed at.

The bid for Heggebø follows a clear strategy shift moving forward for the Baggies, with several out-of-the-box signings like Heggem, who made a promising start to life at The Hawthorns after arriving from Swedish side IK Brommapojkarna last summer.

The hope now is that when the deal is done, Heggebø can settle quickly, provide competition, and perhaps even become West Brom’s
