Ruben Selles is set to hold talks with the duo over their futures at the MKM

Hull City are facing a crucial January transfer window, as Ruben Selles looks to make the required changes in order for the club to stave off relegation.

The Tigers have already been linked with several names prior to and after the opening of the current window, which is notoriously different for clubs to do business in, due to such a short timeframe.

Whilst recent potential incomings include Willy Boly from Nottingham Forest and Polish left-back, Tymoteusz Puchacz amid competition from other Championship clubs, Selles has several big decisions to make regarding players already at the club, as Hull's squad is currently packed out.

And, following the confirmation of summer recruit Marvin Mehlem's loan to SC Paderborn, the Spaniard is set to hold talks with two more players who were added to the ranks under Tim Walter last summer.

Chris Bedia and Anthony Racioppi set for talks with Ruben Selles

That refers to Union Berlin loanee and striker, Chris Bedia, as well as goalkeeper Anthony Racioppi, who was signed from BSC Young Boys for a reported €1m figure back in August.

Racioppi is one of several goalkeepers currently on the books at the MKM alongside current number one, Ivor Pandur, as well as Brighton loanee Carl Rushworth, who is yet to feature for Hull amid injury issues.

The Swiss shot-stopper has made just one appearance for his new club thus far, which came in the EFL Cup defeat to Sheffield Wednesday on August 14th - which included a bizarre mishap - being utilsed as Pandur's understudy as the Croat has emerged as a key performer for the Tigers.

Meanwhile, Bedia has featured in 21 Championship outings - only nine of which have been starts - and has massively struggled for consistency, finding the back of the net on three occasions, with his last goal coming against Watford on December 11th.

Both players were absent altogether from the squad which salvaged a dramatic point against league leaders Leeds United on Saturday, with Hull Live understanding that Racioppi may move on swiftly, and that Bedia could return to the Bundesliga side.

And, whilst keeping his cards close to his chest, Selles did admit post-match that conversations are to be had at the MKM.

"Well, it's just my team selection, and I thought some other players could contribute more to the game, and then moving forward, of course, I need to have a couple of conversations with them, but I would prefer to have those conversations first and then make a statement to you," he said.

With that in mind, Football League World asked our resident City fan pundit, Ryan Frankish, for his thoughts on the matter.

Hull City fan pundit issues mixed reaction to Chris Bedia, Anthony Racioppi developments

Given the fact that both players have endured a completely different set of circumstances since moving to East Yorkshire, Frankish's reaction to the developments was rather mixed, especially when it came to Racioppi's predicament.

"Chris Bedia, definitely (let go)," he began. "He isn't good enough to play in the Championship."

"Without being too harsh, I really do question how he was even scouted to play at this level," our fan pundit stated. "In regards to his loan, I think it should just be cut short. We should draw a line under it and that will be it."

"With Racioppi, it's a little bit different, really," he added. "We've got Lo-Tutala, but I thought he was going to Wrexham. And, we've got Rushworth, but he belongs to another club."

"I don't understand why we'd keep him (Rushworth)," Frankish continued. "I'd be more inclined to cancel his loan and keep Racioppi as a bench keeper."

"I'd be happy to loan Racioppi out, if that was the case. But, I wouldn't think I'd want to sell him, because I think there is a good keeper in there."

"At the end of the day, he's going to want to play football. But, I'm sure there could be another plan in terms of rotation or if Pandur is to leave/get injured," he concluded.

Hull City must hope for a quick resolution to goalkeeping situation

As a result of several goalkeepers being permanently or temporarily contracted to Hull, it's no surprise that Selles is facing such a conundrum, especially when considering the qualities which many of them can offer.

Despite Pandur's solid start to the season, Rushworth was in line to make his Tigers bow against Sunderland in October before being hit with the aforementioned setback.

And, despite the ball being said to have been in Brighton's court when it came to a decision over Rushworth's short-term future, it has been reported by Hull Live that the 23-year-old is set to remain at the club for the remainder of the season.

This would then see Racioppi drop to third-choice, which would no doubt cause mass frustration for the former Swiss youth international who has previous Swiss Super League, Ligue 1 and UEFA Champions League experience on his CV, and therefore, would want to ply his trade at a club where he is promised regular minutes.

Given how strong the goalkeeping department is at the MKM, replacements in this area wouldn't necessarily be required if Racioppi was to depart, despite the fact it would raise further eyebrows as to why both he and Rushworth were acquired at the same time.

But, it would free up another space in the 25-man squad, which enables Selles to press forward with other negotiations in areas which need improving as soon as possible.
