The Reading boss could be about to take over at the MKM Stadium

Selles has been in charge at the Select Car Leasing Stadium since July last year, and has helped the Royals consolidate themselves in League One amid serious financial troubles at board level.

The 41-year-old was previously in charge of Premier League outfit Southampton prior to taking over at Reading, and now could be set to take over at a Championship club for the first time in his short managerial career so far.

Hull have been without a head-coach since Tim Walter was sacked last week after just 18 games in charge, with the club in the relegation zone, but Hull Live have now reported that the club are hopeful of striking a deal for Selles before the end of the week, with talks set to begin imminently after Reading granted permission for the Tigers to approach him with a contract.

Mike McGrath of the Telegraph had issued an update earlier today, via X, that Selles was the favourite to take over as Tigers boss, with the two clubs expected to open talks over a deal, and it looks as if a move for the Spaniard is now progressing.

Names such as Slavisa Jokanovic, Chris Hughton, Alex Neil, Steven Schumacher and Mark Robins have all reportedly been looked at by the club, but Selles now looks to be the man picked out by Acun Ilcali for the vacant role at the MKM Stadium.

Selles had reiterated his desire to stay at Reading

Selles led Reading to a respectable 17th-placed finish in his first full season in management last term, and has the Royals sitting sixth in League One as it stands, after a huge improvement in their performances this time around.

Reading fans will have anticipated interest from higher clubs after their strong form, but recent quotes from the Spaniard in the aftermath of their win over Cambridge United on Tuesday will have given them hope of him staying at the club for the foreseeable future.

"Literally the last 24 hours I have been fully focused on the team. If there is something it is always my agent and I don’t want to know anything, especially when we have a game like today," he told the Reading Chronicle.

Selles seemed set on staying at the club, going off that interview, but this latest update suggests that if terms can be agreed over the coming days, he will be the new man tasked with taking the Tigers up the Championship table and away from the threat of relegation.
