Manchester City are considering the possibility of signing Andriy Lunin from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window, as per a new report.

Pep Guardiola will be backed heavily in the transfer market after a campaign that has seen City fail to mount a genuine challenge for the Premier League and UEFA Champions League – settling for a top four league finish chase and a possible eighth FA Cup title.

The 2023 treble winners have dropped off significantly from their four-in-a-row Premier League heroics owing to major departures from the first-team in the last 18-24 months and a collective drop in form shown by several senior players.

Many of these senior players could be moved on by Manchester City in the summer and incoming sporting director Hugo Viana is believed to be conducting an audit of Guardiola’s squad as the Portuguese prepares to fully take over from Txiki Begiristain.

City’s squad rebuild will begin in goal and this could finally be the year Ederson Moraes gets his desired move away from the Etihad Stadium, having failed in his pursuit of a transfer to the Saudi Pro League last summer.

The Brazilian is out of contract at the Etihad Stadium in 2026 and the upcoming transfer window would be the perfect time for Manchester City to cash in on their number one should a suitor club match the Blues’ valuation of the 31-year-old.

Stefan Ortega Moreno will also enter the final year of his current City deal in the summer and there has long been interest from Germany in the 32-year-old, who refused to rule out leaving Manchester City at the end of the season whilst on international duty with Germany in March.

Ortega Moreno has proved to be a reliable stand-in for Ederson since his arrival on a free transfer in 2022, but his form has dipped this season and there remain question marks over City’s goalkeeping options after a pretty sub-standard season.

As reported by Bernabéu Digital, whose information has been relayed by Sport Witness, Manchester City are interested in signing Real Madrid shotstopper Andriy Lunin in the upcoming transfer window.

Lunin excelled for Los Blancos last seasn in the absence of the then injured Thibaut Courtois as a stand-in for the unconvincing Kepa Arrizabalaga, being rewarded with a new contract till 20230 by the current Champions League holders in September 2024.

However, the Ukraine international is aware he remains behind Courtois in Carlo Ancelotti’s pecking order and amid interest from Manchester City and Bayern Munich, the 26-year-old could seek an exit in the summer.
