The eight players that could depart Huddersfield Town for nothing this summer
Huddersfield Town are still seeking promotion back to the Championship at the first attempt this season, albeit via the play-offs.
However, the Terriers have had a far from straightforward campaign in League One due to significant injury issues.
A change in manager was made in March amid a poor run of form that was hurting their chances at promotion, with faith lost in Michael Duff.
While the Yorkshire outfit look to appoint a new head coach, the club will also have decisions to make over the future of their playing squad, with the summer transfer window fast approaching as well.
Here we look at the eight Huddersfield players that could depart for nothing at the end of the campaign due to their expiring contracts, as per Transfermarkt.
Josh Koroma has been a key figure for Huddersfield this year, but could be set to depart at the end of the campaign.
The forward joined the club in 2019 from Leyton Orient, although spent time on loan at Rotherham United and Portsmouth within the last six seasons.
Matty Pearson’s time with the Terriers could be coming to an end with this season.
The defender’s contract will expire at the end of the campaign, with no fresh agreement on an extension confirmed.
Pearson has been a regular presence in the side since joining from Luton Town in 2021, but he is now 31, and it remains to be seen if he remains a key figure in the squad.
When fit, Tom Lees has been a consistent presence in the team this year amid Huddersfield’s push for promotion.
However, he could be set to depart for nothing unless a new deal can be agreed, which could come as a big blow to whoever the next manager is.
Ollie Turton’s deal is set to expire at the end of this season. However, it's said Huddersfield hold an option to extend his contract by another 12 months, via the BBC.
Turton has proven a useful figure for the Terriers in League One, meaning it could be worth their while to keep him around another year.
Injury issues have hampered Josh Ruffels’ time at the club, which could come to an end this June when his current contract expires.
Given his age, 31, and his recent fitness concerns, there’s a distinct possibility that these next few weeks will be his last with the team.
Chris Maxwell is Huddersfield’s third choice goalkeeper, and is now 34-years-of-age, so this could be the end of his time at the club.
The Welshman hasn’t played in the league since last season, where he made nine appearances, and it is clear he has fallen down the pecking order since then as well.
Danny Ward’s return to the club in 2020 has worked out pretty well, but his influence on the team has waned over the last 18 months or so and injuries tend to pinch.
The forward has struggled in League One and is now 32, so it remains to be seen whether Huddersfield will keep him on beyond his contract, which expires in June.
Jonathan Hogg has been a crucial figure for the Terriers over the last decade or so, and remains a useful part of the team.
However, at 36, it remains unclear whether he and the club want to continue for another campaign just yet.
