Huddersfield Town have decisions to make over the next few months, not least who will be the man to lead them into the w025/26 season after the departure of Michael Duff.

The former Barnsley man was shown the door last weekend after a drastic downturn in results, with the Terriers earning just three victories from their last 12 league games before his time at the club came to an end.

While Jon Worthington has been given the role on an interim basis until the end of the season, there will also be plenty of deliberation about the playing staff between now and the summer, with a number of players set to be out of contract by the time July 1 comes around.

With that in mind, we spoke to Football League World’s Town fan pundit Nick Barlow about which player looks most likely to depart the club during the off-season and just how big a miss they could be once they set sail.

Josh Koroma tipped for Huddersfield Town summer departure as contract decision looms

Josh Koroma is one of eight Huddersfield players who are likely to see their contracts come to an end in the coming months, with the forward joining the likes of Matty Pearson, Tom Lees and Jonathan Hogg in uncertain territory as the days tick down.

Josh Ruffels, Chris Maxwell and Danny Ward are also in the last few months of their current deal, while Ollie Turton has a club option of another one-year if they choose to utilise it in the coming months.

While an argument could be made for a number of those mentioned to be kept at the club, or even to depart, Barlow believes Koroma will be the most likely to find a new club over the summer, with a whole host of sides likely to be interested in what he can bring in the final third.

When asked about the summer’s situation regarding player exits, the Town fan said: “I think the player most likely to leave in the summer will be Josh Koroma. He is probably one of the only players who can find the back of the net and has a touch of quality.

“He can be a bit predictable sometimes in the way he plays, when he cuts onto his right foot all the time and tries to shoot. A lot of teams have figured him out but I still think at League One, or at the bottom of the Championship, he is decent enough.

"We have got a lot of players out of contract at the end of the season, I think there are eight, so there is going to be a mass exodus, it is just going to be whether we can find the players to replace them.”

Josh Koroma, Huddersfield Town impact hailed as impending departure predicted

If he does leave this summer, Koroma will bring to an end a six-year association with Huddersfield, having been brought to the club from Leyton Orient in the summer of 2019.

Since then, the 26-year-old has played over 150 times for the Yorkshire outfit, with 31 goals in all competitions, and a personal highlights reel full of superb strikes from all manner of angles and distances.

With seven goals in the current campaign, only West Ham United loanee Callum Marshall can top his tally for this season, with Koroma often providing the creative spark needed to break down defences when being given the chance to do so.

While he can easily amaze and frustrate in equal measure, Barlow believes the soon-to-be-out-of-contract star will be missed if he does indeed depart the John Smith’s Stadium.

He continued: “I think Koroma will be missed by some and not others, he tends to be a bit predictable and can blow hot and cold.

“He can go on a spell where he can be really good and then be anonymous for the next five or six. So some fans will miss him and some won’t, but I appreciate what be brings to the side.

“He just has that touch of quality that we don’t really have elsewhere.”
