Champions Liverpool play their penultimate match of the Premier League season away at Brighton tonight.

The Reds will receive their third consecutive pre-game guard of honour at the Amex Stadium on Monday evening, having wrapped up the title with four fixtures to spare with a ruthless 5-1 demolition of Tottenham on Merseyside last month.

Arne Slot’s men have understandably taken their eye off the ball a little since then with a surprise defeat at Chelsea followed by blowing a two-goal lead at home to former title rivals Arsenal, but it will matter little to fans with the trophy already in the bag.

However, Slot will be eager for the focus to be taken off Trent Alexander-Arnold after the departing right-back was booed by his own fans at Anfield last weekend.

Brighton’s route into Europe next term now looks to be a potential non-starter after fierce rivals Crystal Palace’s shock win over Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday.

Fabian Hurzeler’s side currently sit ninth, behind Brentford on goal difference only, after sandwiching their draw against Newcastle with wins over West Ham and Wolves.

Brighton have been strong at home of late, but Liverpool haven’t failed to win three games in a row in the top-flight all season.
