QPR have shown interest in signing the defender permanently following his loan spell at Loftus Road last season.
Southampton have turned down bids from Queens Park Rangers for defender Ronnie Edwards, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Loftus Road.
The Saints have rejected offers from the Rs for the 22-year-old centre-back, and their current position is that they will not sell him before the end of the summer transfer window, as per journalist Alfie House via X.
Edwards was substituted by Will Still during his side's victory over Wrexham on the opening day of the Championship season, and he has been left on the bench for each of Southampton's subsequent league fixtures.
However, he has played 90 minutes in both of the Saints' EFL Cup victories so far this term, contributing to clean sheets against Northampton Town and Norwich City, with it seeming likely that he will be part of the squad for the remainder of the 2025/26 campaign.
QPR have strengthened Julien Stephan's squad this week following their heavy defeat away at Coventry City last weekend, with Rhys Norrington-Davies, Isaac Hayden and Koki Saito all having completed moves to Loftus Road since their visit to the CBS Arena.
The club were clearly also targeting Edwards to bolster Stephan's defensive options, but it looks highly unlikely that they will sign him on a permanent basis given that Southampton have no desire to sell.
Despite Ronnie Edwards only making one Premier League appearance during his debut season at St Mary's, and the fact he was sent on loan to QPR midway through the campaign, the Saints do not want to sell the 22-year-old this summer.
The defender joined Southampton from League One side Peterborough United for a fee in the region of £3 million last summer, and he signed a four-year contract upon his arrival, so he is clearly seen as a player for the future on the south coast.
Edwards has plenty of experience in the EFL despite having only turned 22 in March, with more than 50 Championship appearances and 87 League One outings under his belt from his spells with Peterborough and QPR, and he still has plenty of room for improvement, which is why Southampton want to keep hold of him.
The former Barnet youngster has also represented England internationally at under-21 level, so he will no doubt be hoping to show why he is rated so highly during the rest of this season with Southampton.
Signing Edwards on a permanent basis following his successful loan spell at Loftus Road last season would have been a real boost for QPR, especially after they conceded seven goals against Coventry last weekend.
The 22-year-old made 21 appearances in the second tier for the Rs last term, starting each of the last 20 games of the season and scoring important goals in victories against Derby County and Oxford United.
However, with Southampton seemingly unwilling to sell the defender before the end of the summer transfer window, QPR will need to turn their attentions towards other targets, and hope that the addition of Norrington-Davies can help Julien Stephan's side put in a more solid defensive performance at home against Charlton Athletic on Saturday.
