Liverpool's Caoimhin Kelleher has been linked with a move to Leeds United and West Ham ahead of the summer window.
Leeds United are closing in on a return to the Premier League, with Daniel Farke’s side firmly in tthe driving seat to seal promotion.
Until promotion is mathematically secure, nobody at Elland Road will get too carried away, but the recruitment team at Leeds will have to plan ahead.
The gap between the Premier League and the Championship has been a talking point in recent weeks, as it looks as though the three promoted clubs will be relegated from the top-flight for a second successive season.
Therefore, Leeds will have to target quality if they do seal a Premier League return, and it has been suggested that Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher is on their radar.
Even though the Irish international is second-choice at Anfield behind Alisson Becker, he has shown his quality for the Reds over the years, which has included playing in cup finals and other big games.
So, his signing would be seen as a coup for Leeds if they could pull it off, but West Ham are also believed to be in the race for his signature.
Liverpool are sure to demand a hefty fee for Kelleher, although the fact his contract expires in 2026, which means he is about to enter the final year, could bring that down somewhat.
Yet, in terms of wages, Kelleher may not be a massive outlay for any interested clubs.
Whilst we must stress that these figures are only estimates, Capology claim that the 26-year-old is currently earning £10,000 a week with Liverpool, which puts him as one of the lowest earners in their squad.
That may seem a surprising figure, but it’s worth noting that Kelleher signed his current Liverpool contract back in 2021.
At that time, he hadn’t made double figures in terms of appearances for the Premier League leaders, so it’s understandable that he wouldn’t be on a big contract at that time.
Again, we don’t know how accurate those figures are, but Kelleher would certainly be in a position to command a much bigger salary.
As mentioned, he has shown his class for Liverpool, as well as establishing himself as Ireland’s number one, so his stock has risen considerably.
One potential issue for clubs when buying from the bigger clubs is matching the salary on offer, but it seems Kelleher will be getting a pay rise with his next move, which is understandable as he approaches his peak years.
