A report from Calcio e Finanza explains how Lazio plan to fund their project to renovate the Stadio Flaminio project.

The Background

The Biancocelesti are looking to have their own stadiums, thus parting ways from Roma, with whom they share the Stadio Olimpico. Lazio president Claudio Lotito identified the currently-defunct Stadio Flaminio as the best available option. But as the source explains, renovating this ground and the surrounding area will cost them circa €438 million or slightly more.

How Lazio Plan to Fund Flaminio Project

The report thus reveals how the club plans to finance this major long-term project. The bulk of the investment will be provided by a 30-year loan worth €283 million. Moreover, another €85.6 million will arrive from self-financing plus another €24 million from public contributions.

Timetable & Competition

Lazio will be looking to finalise the bureaucratic procedures by the start of 2026 and are aiming to finish the renovation work by the summer of 2029. However, they still have to beat competition from the Roma Nuoto project who are also hoping to secure an agreement with the Roma municipality for the same area.

New Streams of Revenues

Once Lazio move to their new home, they would be able to count on several revenue streams to repay their debt. This includes improved matchday revenues, the stadium’s naming rights, VIP boxes and various sponsorships, in addition to hosting social and sporting events.

Euro 2032 Dream

Finally, the club plans to present a stadium that meets the requirements of ‘UEFA Category 4’ and thus eligible to host matches in Euro 2032 which will be held in Italy and Turkiye.
