Aston Villa attacker Morgan Rogers has long felt like a bridge too far for Chelsea this summer, but that could still change.
The Blues have already made serious attacking signings, adding Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Estevao Willian and Jamie Gittens to the first team, with Geovany Quenda lined up tomorrow. That really makes it feel like Rogers would be too much – but there’s a way it could happen.
If Christopher Nkunku is sold (which feels pretty likely), Noni Madueke goes (all but done already) and another attacker joins them (perhaps Marc Guiu on loan somewhere), there would be room for Rogers.

The rising star would be very expensive – a report from Spain cited by CaughtOffside today says it could be a fee of €90m. But he looks well worth it. Young, Premier League experienced and full of talent, there’s a reason he would be so costly.
Sell Nkunku and Madueke and you’ve made €90m right there. The Club World Cup brought in serious cash, and there remain a host of players in the squad we could still flog this summer.
The 22 year old Rogers can play wide or through the middle. With so much talent up front now, we suspect we would see him playing off the wing, competing with Pedro Neto, but also capable of filling in Cole Palmer or Enzo Fernandez’s position in the current setup.
He’s right age profile, and while the fee is high, we saw with Fernandez and Moises Caicedo that Chelsea are willing to pay mega money if they really think they’re getting an elite player who can be a key part of the team for ten years.
