In years gone by, the £54m signing of an established Premier League winger would have made major headlines, and Chelsea fans would have sat down each and every week thrilled to see their potential new hero play.
But the number of signings Chelsea have made over the last couple of years has changed that – we barely feel we know Noni Madueke and Mykhailo Mudyrk yet, let along summer arrival Pedro Neto. He hasn’t even consistently been a starter either, although that feels like it’s about to change.
He will start on the left against Arsenal tomorrow, and show off some of the mentality that’s already evident from his interview with Sky Sports this week.

“Of course we are really young but even in the last game [against Manchester United] you saw we were not happy with that draw. The players have the mentality to win. We knew we could have won that game and I think that mentality is important,” Neto explained in an interview which really highlighted the fact that he and his teammates know what they need to do to win titles.
“No, I don’t think [these big games matter more]. We had two games at home to Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace [where we dropped points], and if we want to be a top team we have to win those. We go into all the games with the mentality to win. Some games will be more difficult than others and these are the games we like to play, but if somebody says these are the games we are judged on, I don’t think so. We are judged in every match we play.
“A good thing with this group is that we go with the same mentality for all the games. The key point is the consistency, that is the point of everything.”
Well said, Pedro. Now let’s see the team deliver just that tomorrow.
