Steph Houghton described Jeremy Doku as ‘unplayable’ at times in City’s 5-2 FIFA Club World Cup win over Juventus.
The Belgian opened the scoring in Orlando with a smart finish at the Camping World Stadium as we secured top spot in Group G with a statement win.
Further goals from Erling Haaland, Phil Foden, Savinho and a Juventus own goal saw City over the line, maintaining our 100% record in the competition in the process.
And Houghton, our record women’s appearance holder, was quick to highlight Doku’s contribution to an excellent performance from Pep Guardiola’s men.
Speaking on Matchday Live, she said: “[Jeremy] Doku, that goal and especially in the first half, he was unplayable, you couldn’t get anywhere near him.
“They tried so many different tactics [to stop him] but he kept getting in the box and creating havoc. I thought he had the biggest impact.
“You’re going into a new tournament that not many people know about, it does seem like a bit of a fresh start.
“For him, especially at the end of the season he might not have featured as much as he’d have liked but every chance he’s getting, he wants to prove everyone wrong.
“He’s certainly doing that and is in really good form.”
Houghton’s fellow Matchday Live pundit, former England goalkeeper David James, was also full of praise for City’s display at the Camping World Stadium.
The Blues were in control from start to finish, finishing the groups with maximum points and an average of over four goals per game.
But it was our performance against the Italian giants in particular which caught the eye for James, who feels the entire team is currently firing on all cylinders.
“I’ve got to say, that was quite incredible,” the former City stopper added.
“There were parts where Juventus weren’t brilliant but so often in football when one team is so good, it can make the other team look not so good. I think that’s what we saw today.
“If you look at this side at the moment, it’s not just individual players, everyone seems to be on it.”
