FC Barcelona does not have a lot of egos in the dressing room, and that has worked out well. The Catalan giants work together like a family, something that shows up on the pitch. However, even families like Barcelona need leaders.

One player in particular who has always exhibited leadership traits is Gavi, and he continues to do that even now. Despite being on the sidelines for a long time following his ACL injury, he returned with confidence and commitment.

Now, beyond just himself, he also helps out other teammates to adjust to life in the Barcelona first team. The most recent player to get his help was Pedro ‘Dro’ Fernandez, and as quoted by SPORT, Gavi really seems to wish the best for him:

I hope Dro gets promoted. He’s an incredible talent and a great person. A really good kid. I advise him a lot because, in the end, he’s my protégé. I always try to help him with everything, and I hope he keeps going with the mindset he has and gives his all in training. That’s important because the coach sees it and makes decisions based on that. If he continues like this, everything will go well for him.

However, he also made sure to praise Hansi Flick’s commitment to his players and claimed that he remains content with whatever role he has to play:

He’s always trusted me and supported me after the injury. He genuinely cares and always checks on how I’m doing. That’s what matters to me—that he’s happy with me. The role I’ll have is up to him, but I’m really happy with him. Hopefully, he stays for many more years because we’re all very happy with him. And that helps the team step up. We all believe in the coach.

As for his potential captaincy, Gavi revealed that it remains a dream of his, but it is also something that he is willing to wait for and is okay with not rushing:

It’s always been my dream to wear the Barcelona armband. It’s a huge honour and I feel extra motivated every time I wear it. It inspires me. But if I’m not one of the official captains this season, that’s fine. Even though I’ve been in the first team for a while, I’m still young and have to keep learning from the veterans. My time will come.

Fortunately, despite rumours of potential transfer offers for Gavi, Barcelona remain more than happy with the player. At this point in time, that partnership between the Spaniard and Barça looks to be one that will continue for the years to come.
