For a long while, it was suggested that FC Barcelona were the favourites to secure the signing of Jonathan Tah on a free transfer in the summer.
The 29-year-old German international’s contract with Bayer Leverkusen expires on June 30 and he had announced that he would be leaving once the deal ran out.
Barcelona had a verbal agreement with the defender over a transfer but nothing was set in stone as the Catalans have been battling Fair Play issues.
It left the door open for Bayern Munich to swoop in and secure the services of Tah on a free transfer.
Indeed, as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, the German international has agreed a deal to join Bayern Munich in the coming days.
Furthermore, the update from Romano also claims that Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed that they have been informed of the agreement between Tah and the Bundesliga champions.
Now, the two clubs will try and negotiate a fee for the early release of the 29-year-old so that Bayern Munich can have him available for the FIFA Club World Cup starting next month.
This development comes as a big blow for Barcelona who had been wanting to sign Tah since last summer with manager Hansi Flick understood to have been particularly keen on his acquisition.
However, considering the depth in the centre-back department already, there was always the question of where Tah would fit in if he joined the Blaugrana.
The centre-back, though, has opted to join Bayern Munich while Barcelona are likely to keep hold of their current defensive roster for next season without any changes.
