Across this season the form of Kyle Walker has become a major concern for Manchester City. This concern was once again on display during Manchester City’s 2-nil defeat to Liverpool at Anfield yesterday. Manchester City’s captain, Kyle Walker, again put in a poor performance as he just couldn’t affect yesterday’s game as he would’ve liked. It does appear that the time is coming when Manchester City will have to buy another right-back. Now a new report indicates that the world champions may have found the player they view as Kyle Walker’s successor.

Billy Meyers has relayed a report from Graeme Bailey for TBR Football that Manchester City are ready to find another right-back. TBR Football’s report indicates that the world champions are ready to move on from Kyle Walker. Furthermore, Meyers and Bailey’s report suggests that there is interest in Kyle Walker from the Saudi Pro League. The pair go on to report that Manchester City have identified Jeremie Frimpong as Kyle Walker’s replacement. They further report that City are admirers of the Dutch international. Lastly, the report indicates that Real Madrid and Liverpool are also interested in signing Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen.

Is there a chance that Manchester City could move for Jeremie Frimpong in January now that City’s right-back situation appears to be a problem?

Across Manchester City’s seven-game winless run, a host of issues have appeared with Pep Guardiola’s squad. The majority of those issues have been injury and fitness-related, but in the case of Kyle Walker and several of his teammates, it does appear that they are reaching the end of their careers. Walker has been a warrior for Manchester City, but sadly, it does appear that the end is near for the England international at the club.

That situation poses a question. Could City move for a right-back in January? I feel they almost have to. Walker’s decline is obvious to see and the world champions do not appear to have another option for the position. Rico Lewis can play the role but he is needed to play in midfield. I believe his future does lie as a midfielder. John Stones and Manuel Akanji can play the position but they’re both battling their own injury and fitness issues. Based on those factors the champions do appear to desperately need a new right-back.

If their target is Jeremie Frimpong, as per TBR Football’s report, it may depend on if he is available in January. If he is, and with Real Madrid and Liverpool reportedly monitoring the Bayer Leverkusen full-back, it may force City’s hand. The report from TBR Football suggests that a fee of £33.6 million could land City the Dutch international. It may well be a situation to monitor next month.

Manchester City’s rebuild is coming, that is obvious. Perhaps it can start in January and a player like Jeremie Frimpong could help strengthen City’s squad for this season and beyond as they plan for a new era of success.
