FC Barcelona bid their farewell to one of the more memorable seasons in their recent history last night as they played their last game of the 2024-25 season against Athletic Club at San Mames.
The Blaugranes won this game convincingly, with a 3-0 scoreline, even though there was not much at stake. This goes on to show how competitive the Catalan team has been this season.
Hansi Flick was naturally happy to see his men finish the season on a high and expressed his happiness as he addressed the press after the game. As SPORT has reported, the German tactician believed this was a perfect farewell to the season:
“It was perfect. We had talked about this, about finishing well and playing the way we had throughout the season.”
The Blaugrana coach also talked about his decision to start Inaki Pena in goal for this game:
“I was sad about the situation and our decision. He always gives everything in training, he’s a very good professional. We had decided that today he deserved it and I want to thank him. He had a good match, I’m very happy for him.”
However, Hansi Flick was not too keen to comment on another goalkeeper who has been linked quite strongly with Barcelona recently, Joan Garcia:
“He’s a very good player, but I don’t talk about those who are not in my team… we have three fantastic goalkeepers.”

Similarly, he also praised the team’s forwards amid reports of the Catalan club looking for offensive reinforcements:
“When you want to compare yourself with these players, you have to be at a very high level. Our forwards have had very good numbers, they’ve worked very well and create many chances.”
Meanwhile, a big change has taken place at Barcelona’s rival club, Real Madrid, where Xabi Alonso replaced Carlo Ancelotti as the head coach. Hansi Flick praised the newly appointed Merengue coach and expressed his happiness at seeing him in La Liga:
“I know him and I’ve spoken with him several times, I know his philosophy and we’ve seen his success in Germany. The players he has coached have improved a lot. I’m glad to see him around here.”
This was the last post-match presser from Hansi Flick for his first season in charge of the Barcelona team. However, one can expect to see him in a few weeks in front of the press or the media again, as the Blaugranes start their preseason with a tour of Asia.
