Hansi Flick has identified his ‘number 1’ player in Barcelona’s defence | OneFootball

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick considers one player as standing out above all others in the central-defensive pecking order in his squad.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who highlight Pau Cubarsí as the player in question.

Stopper Cubarsí has for his part of course enjoyed a stellar campaign to date.

Continuing to build on his reputation as one of the standout young talents in world football, the Spaniard has stood as a near ever-present in Barcelona’s backline.

Cubarsí has formed an impressive partnership with veteran Iñigo Martínez, with whom the 17-year-old shares an excellent relationship on the pitch.

And yet, it is Cubarsí who stands clear of Iñigo as the clear no.1 centre-half in the Blaugrana’s ranks.

As per a report from Sport:

‘Today, the homegrown player is the number one in the Barça defence. The returns of Araújo and Christensen tighten the internal competition, but Hansi Flick is clear that Cubarsí is the leader of the defence despite being only 17 years old.’
