Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has provided an explanation for his decision to make use of Eric García rather than Jules Koundé against Mallorca on Saturday.
Barcelona are of course fresh off getting their La Liga campaign up and running yesterday evening.
After making the trip to Son Moix to take on the aforementioned Mallorca, the Blaugrana cruised to an eventual 3-0 triumph.
In the buildup to the clash, much of the chatter surrounding Barca’s predicted XI centered on just who would be chosen to fill the right-back spot.
This came with Eric García fresh off a stellar close to last season, in filling in for the first-choice Jules Koundé.
In the end, it was the former who was chosen, enjoying another solid showing en route to Barcelona keeping a clean sheet at Son Moix.
Speaking to the media in his post-match press conference, his decision to opt for Eric over Koundé was, in turn, put to Blaugrana headmaster Hansi Flick.
And the German went on to explain:
“It has to do with what I saw from pre-season. Eric deserved to play because he has been outstanding, although Jules is at a high level too.”
