The future of Hansi Flick has been the big talking point at Barcelona this week as the club look to tie the German down to a long-term contract.
Barça are mightily impressed by the way Flick has turned the team’s fortunes in such a quick time and are, therefore, keen on extending his deal that expires in 2026.
A recent report from Raul Fuentes on DirectoGol has offered an update on Flick’s contract talks with Barcelona, offering useful insights into the German’s plans at the club.
As per the report, it appears Flick is not too keen on signing a three-year deal at Barcelona, much to the disappointment of the club.
Flick’s idea is to sign a one-year deal in Catalonia with an option to extend the deal for another year.
This chimes in with earlier reports suggesting that Flick is ready to bide his time and evaluate an extension beyond 2027 only when the time comes.

The report does add that the German, as well as his coaching staff, wants to completely focus on the project at hand.
Flick, for his part, is extremely happy with the team, the club and the city and is comfortable living in Catalonia.
As such, talks have already taken place between his agent Pini Zahavi and the Barcelona hierarchy, including Joan Laporta, Rafa Yuste and Deco.
Both parties appear in tune and therefore, if everything goes to plan, Flick may soon sign a new contract at Barcelona, which will keep him at the club until 2027.
That said, the report adds that the stint in Barcelona might be Flick’s last adventure and that the German is not favouring any long-term projects for now.
Therefore, even if the coach extends beyond 2027, it is unlikely that he will stay at the club for a very long time.
