It seems that Barcelona manager Hans Flick has already made his final decision on one of Barcelona's first-team captains who has spent more than a decade with the Catalan club, German Marc-Andre ter Stegen. Rumours have been circulating that he is about to leave the first team after disagreements with the management and the technical department.

The Catalan club had officially signed Spanish goalkeeper Joan Garcia from Espanyol, which put more pressure on the German goalkeeper after the official renewal of Polish goalkeeper Szczesny as well, to make it clear that the club does not want the player anymore.

The German's debate over the starting position with the team next season

According to reports from Sport, German coach Hans Flick sat down with his compatriot and they had a discussion and the coach told him that he would not be the main man next season. The German coach arrived in Barcelona on Tuesday and had dinner with his assistants Marcus Sorg and Toni Tapalovic and they discussed the upcoming season.

In a candid meeting with Marc-André ter Stegen, Barcelona’s manager Hansi Flick laid out his vision for the team’s future between the posts. According to reports from the Catalan press, Flick was transparent about his plans, emphasizing that the arrival of 24-year-old goalkeeper García was a deliberate move—one backed by full confidence in the young shot-stopper to take over as Barça’s first-choice keeper.

The German manager didn’t mince words: García would be the undisputed starter, with veteran Wojciech Szczęsny retaining his role as the reliable backup. For ter Stegen, however, the conversation took a difficult turn. Flick made it clear that, under this new hierarchy, the long-serving goalkeeper would now find himself third in line—a significant shift for a player once considered a pillar of the squad.

The decision reflects Flick’s strategic overhaul, prioritizing youth and a fresh approach as Barcelona enters a new chapter. While the news may come as a blow to ter Stegen, the manager’s straightforward communication leaves little room for doubt—change is coming, and the club is moving forward with García as their new guardian.
