Habib Beye will once again be on the touchline for Stade Rennais next season. He inherited the team from Jorge Sampaoli early in 2025. At the time, the club were in a delicate position, hovering just above the relegation zone.
Going into the season, European qualification was the stated objective but despite a considerable recruitment drive to achieve it, they fell drastically short of expectations. Beye ensured that Rennes finished the season clear of the relegation places. With 41 points and in 12th position, they were a comfortable eight points clear of Stade de Reims, the final relegated side.
That achievement saw Beye’s short-term deal renewed automatically for the 2025/26 season. L’Équipe understands that there have been further talks and yet another clause. Just as avoiding relegation triggered a one-year extension last season, a European qualification would see the former Red Star manager’s contract extended for a further year (2026/27 season).
