Manchester City vs Wolves

Four Erling Haaland goals saw Manchester City thump Wolves and move one step closer to a fourth consecutive Premier League title.

Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland linked up well in the opening five minutes, nearly fashioning a few big scoring opportunities, but some last-ditch defending saved the day for the visitors.

A Rodri snapshot fizzed just above the crossbar, but Manchester City’s threat was growing in the opening exchanges.

It did not take long for the hosts’ luck to break, and that luck came in the form of Rayan Aït-Nouri smashing into Joško Gvardiol as the City defender lined up a shot in the Wolves box, forcing the referee to award the hosts a penalty.

The subsequent spot-kick was coolly dispatched by Erling Haaland to give City the early lead they were pushing for.

The Blues continued to control the tempo and possession, and they were rewarded past the half-hour mark when a Rodri cross picked out Erling Haaland at the back-post before the striker headed home for his second of the night.

The Norwegian completed his hat-trick just before the break, this time from the penalty-spot once again after Nélson Semedo brought the striker down from behind in the box.

Wolves pulled one back through Hwang Hee-chan after the break as City appeared to be lulled into a false sense of security by their first-half showing.

However, City went almost immediately down the other way after the kick-off and snatched their fourth through, who else, Erling Haaland.

The dominant showing was capped off by Julián Álvarez in the dying minutes, who scored his 10th of the season to wrap up the three points for City.

Newcastle dent Burnley’s survival bid

Scorers: O’Shea 86′; Wilson 19′, Longstaff 35′, Guimarães 40′. Isak 55′

Burnley’s Premier League survival hopes suffered a significant blow in a hammering by Newcastle.

Callum Wilson handed Eddie Howe’s side the lead by prodding home the rebound after Arijanet Muric’s parried Alexander Isak’s initial effort.

Sean Longstaff extended the Magpies’ cushion later in the first half, sweeping in an effort from Jacob Murphy’s cutback inside the area.

The Magpies went further ahead when Anthony Gordon teed Bruno Guimarães up for a shot in the middle of the box to compound Turf Moor’s misery.

Gordon won a penalty early in the second half which Isak spurned as his effort was saved by Muric but the striker atoned within minutes through a simple finish.

Vincent Kompany’s side notched a late consolation when Dara O’Shea met a corner to the side of the box with a looping header to beat Martin Dúbravka.

Newcastle move ahead of Manchester united into sixth, just four points off Europa League qualification while Burnley moved nine points adrift of safety.

Forest earn much-needed win at Sheff Utd

Nottingham Forest boosted their battle to beat the drop with a 3-1 win at an already-relegated Sheffield United.

Ben Brereton Díaz opened the scoring from the penalty spot after being hauled down by Gonzalo Montiel in the opening quarter of an hour.

But Callum Hudson-Odoi cancelled out the Blades’ advantage in the space of just 11 minutes with a rocket strike from inside the area.

The Tricky Trees took the lead when Ryan Yates volleyed Willy Boly’s knockdown from a Morgan Gibbs-White free kick.

Hudson-Odoi struck again with a curling solo effort after being teed up by Gibbs-White midway through the second half.

Things went from bad to worse for the hosts as they were reduced to 10 men in added time when Anel Ahmedhodžić received a second booking.

Forest have a three-point cushion over relegation rivals Burnley and Luton Town heading into the final two games of the season.

All square in dour London derby

Brentford and Fulham had to settle for a point after a languid West London derby at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Timothy Castagne enjoyed the best chance for the visitors with a second-half header which he sent over the hosts’ crossbar.

The visitors continued to dominate goal-scoring opportunities with Raúl Jiménez blazing over with an effort at the far post.

Marco Silva’s side overtook Brighton into 12th while the Bees move to within a point of 15th-place Everton.

Arsenal break down Bournemouth

Arsenal broke down a stubborn Bournemouth to open up a temporary four-point lead at the Premier League’s summit.

The visitors weathered an early storm as Mikel Arteta’s side produced 13 shots in the opening half-hour but failed to trouble Mark Travers.

But they were gifted a lifeline when Bukayo Saka opening from the penalty spot after Kai Havertz was clipped by Travers as he homed in on goal.

Bournemouth belatedly enjoyed a first opening of the game after the interval as Dominic Solanke found himself denied by David Raya.

It proved short-lived as Leandro Trossard extended the advantage with a sweeping finish from Declan Rice providing a sublime tee-up.

Rice added a third in his own right with a rolled finish from a tight angle in the penalty area after being played in by Gabriel Jesus.

The Gunners sit on 83 points heading into their final two games of the season while Bournemouth remain 11th in the table.

Sunday sees three top-flight games with another London derby between Chelsea and West Ham; Brighton take on Aston Villa before all eyes turn to Anfield, where Liverpool and Tottenham prepare to do battle.
