Pep Guardiola says goalkeeper Stefan Ortega’s performance against Tottenham prevented Arsenal from becoming Premier League champions.

The Man City substitute came off the bench to replace Ederson following a head injury and made a huge save to deny Heung-Min Son while his side were 1-0 ahead thanks to Erling Haaland’s 51st minute strike.

Haaland then added a late second from the penalty spot after Jeremy Doku was fouled to put City two points ahead of Arsenal with just a game to play.

“Stefan Ortega saved actions, otherwise Arsenal are champions,” Guardiola said.

“They can be if we don’t win against West Ham, but that is the reality of modern football. The margins are so, so tight.

“Do you know how many times Son has punished us in the last seven or eight years? Can I tell you how many goals he scored against us with Harry Kane?

“Oh my god, I thought no, once again, but Stefan made an incredible save. He has this talent. In the one against one, he is one of the best keepers I’ve ever seen in my life.

“It’s the German culture. Stand up, don’t go down. It’s really, really good.

“He’s so reliable and an incredible goalkeeper. Our goalkeeper trainer made an incredible decision to bring him here.”
