Lamine Yamal mesmerised onlookers once again by starring in Spain’s recent win over France in the UEFA Nations League.

The Barcelona sensation was an absolute livewire and reminded everyone that he still remains a strong candidate for the Ballon d’Or title.

In light of his display, the forward forced Man City tactician Pep Guardiola to once again talk about him in a recent interview.

Guardiola refuses to compare Yamal with Messi

Speaking to DAZN (h/t SPORT), Guardiola talked about Yamal and his qualities, even congratulating Barcelona for finding such a special talent.

“His way of understanding the game is truly surprising for his age. We’re very lucky, Barça, aren’t we? To have found another boy with this kind of perspective,” he said.

However, Guardiola admitted that he would not want to compare Yamal with Lionel Messi as he believes there can only be one Messi.

“I’m not going to say he’s like Leo, I’m sorry, because for me, there will never be anyone in the world like the Argentine. It’s impossible,” he said.

Explaining his argument further, Guardiola talked about how it takes time to become a special player and live up to high expectations.

“This kind of maturity usually comes at 23, 24, or 25… In terms of understanding and the decisions he makes. Sometimes, when a player is so talented, it seems like they have to do something special every play.

“Like they always have to shoot a three-pointer like Curry. No. Now it’s one touch; now rest for three minutes and then another touch; now a short run and I pass it again; and now I have to win the match,” he said.

Guardiola’s comments come on the back of his statement earlier this week, where the Catalan tactician admitted he would love to coach Yamal.

The Man City coach, though, later clarified that coaching Yamal will not become a possibility during his career.
