Greenwood named in FIFPRO Women's World XI | OneFootball

Alex Greenwood has been named in the 2024 FIFA FIFPRO Women's World XI.

Our captain has been a rock at the back for City and England throughout the calendar year, leading by example on and off the pitch.

As the only awards that are voted for solely by fellow professionals, the FIFPRO World XI is a highly coveted honour for all players.

Since joining the club in 2020, Greenwood has been the model of consistency for Gareth Taylor's trophy chasing side - defending resolutely and building attacks from her position at the heart of defence.

With the retirement of her great friend Steph Houghton in the summer, Greenwood was officially named club captain for the 2024/25 as a mark of her status within our world-class squad.

After taking the armband, Greenwood has remained as talismanic as before.

She has led City to a positive start in the Barclays Women's Super League while we have already guaranteed safe passage through to the Champions League quarter-finals.

She has now played 139 times for City across all competitions, with only six players ever representing us more.

On the international stage, Greenwood has become one of Sarina Wiegman's most trusted lieutenants in recent years - featuring 42 times since the start of 2022.

She is joined in the FIFPRO Women's World XI by former City team-mates Keira Walsh and Lucy Bronze as well as England colleagues Mary Earps and Lauren James.
