For the first time in his career, Paul Pogba (32) is set to play in Ligue 1. The former Manchester United and Juventus winger is expected to complete a move to AS Monaco in the coming days.

Pogba saw his four-year doping ban cut to 18 months, meaning that he has been training since January and has been able to join a new club since March. However, he did not make an immediate return to action. The Frenchman has bided his time and, after weeks of talks, he has now opted to join Monaco, as per Le Parisien.

His move to the Principality club has been appraised positively by Stade Brestois manager Eric Roy. “It is great news for Ligue 1, for him, and for Monaco. I look on it favourably, even if there is a lot of uncertainty about his fitness,” said Roy, who will manage Brest once again next season after signing a contract extension.

In an interview with L’Équipe, he added, “You’ll have to give him time to re-find his rhythm […] it will be a big challenge. Monaco is an ideal club for him to get back on track, but be careful, it isn’t a place without pressure either.”

Roy then joked about a potential move for Pogba to the Stade Francis Le Blé. “If he wanted to come to Brest, I would have welcomed him with pleasure. The negotiations with Monaco were clearly long. That means we never really had a chance (laughs),” said Roy.
